COLLEGE PARK, MD- April 9, 2013- Carol Boston- Faculty Research Assistant at the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies (iSchool), will discuss work in progress on iSchool research related to volunteer motivation to participate in citizen science projects,  and the technology (including mobile apps and multi-user, touch-input-based tabletops)  to support and encourage their participation on April 17, 2013 at 12 noon at Optimal Solutions Group, LLC (Optimal’s) office in M Square Research Park, Maryland.   Insights gained from recent studies involving international volunteers and millennials (the so-called "digital natives") will be shared.

Carol Boston is a faculty research assistant at the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies (iSchool). She works on two citizen-science-focused biodiversity and design research projects funded by the National Science Foundation: Biotracker (http://www.biotrackers.net/) and the recently awarded NatureNet. Ms. Boston holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently enrolled in the Human-Computer Interaction graduate program at the University of Maryland. Her research interests include user experience evaluation, information-seeking behavior, and behavior in online communities. Prior to joining the iSchool research team, she worked for more than 20 years on federal education contracts for two government contracting firms, where her responsibilities included communications and marketing, training, publications development, user testing, and user services.
