Optimal Solutions Group was recently awarded a contract to support the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Expert Witness Administrative Hearing Process to continue, maintain and build a pool of established experts. These expert witnesses serve to advise Office of General Counsel (OGC) attorneys and provide testimony on behalf of CMS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the administrative hearing process.

As administrator of this contract, Optimal will provide assistance in maintaining and improving the agency’s methods for the acquisition of expert witnesses for administrative hearings, which will lessen the time that attorneys would normally spend acquiring expert witnesses themselves. The provision of a varied pool of experts will also allow information to be shared between CMS and OGC as to the type of experts most often used and the availability of these experts, as many attorneys may not be aware of due to the vastness of the medical community. 

At present, there are over 200 experts in the CMS/OGC network.  Expert witnesses include both academicians and community-based practitioners in various specialty areas, who are nationally recognized as leaders in their fields.
